For nearly five decades, Caribbean Dance Company of the Virgin Islands, Inc. has been a cultural cornerstone in the Virgin Islands, offering world-class dance education that nurtures confidence, discipline, and self-expression. Founded in 1977, the organization has played a vital role in developing awareness and appreciation for the traditional arts of this region both at home, and around the world on more than fifty-three tours.
The organization's mission is to unearth, preserve, and perform the unique cultural traditions of the West Indies. The repertory of fourteen (14) works has been choreographed by the Founding Artistic Director, Montgomery Thompson and springs from the traditions, history and culture of the Caribbean region. In an era of continued cultural dilution and loss, Caribbean Dance Company's commitment aims to ensure representation of our region, while seeking to connect people among different communities within the Virgin Islands and beyond.
We continue to invest in our school and keep our cultural repertoire alive through a new generation of dancers who perform as the Caribbean Dance Ensemble under the direction of founding member and current Artistic Director, Curllis Solomon-John.
CARIBBEAN DANCE SCHOOL offers classes each week throughout the year in St. Croix. Children begin their dance training at the age of two years; toddlers, children, teens, adults and seniors train in a comprehensive curriculum of Afro-Caribbean, Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Tap, and Jazz Hip Hop Fusion dance styles with CDS Director and Instructors.
